Happy Anniversary To Entertain Kids On A Dime

Today is my ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY for Entertain Kids On A Dime!

See below my first ever VIDEO BLOG POST :)
PS-I have no idea what my son is saying.

I am so excited that today is the ANNIVERSARY of ENTERTAIN KIDS ON A DIME!

On this date last year, I wrote my first blog post and started my Entertain Kids On A Dime Facebook Group!
I truly believe that when you love something and work hard, that it will all pay off in the end.
Not only have I been able to help others, but I have learned so much from my readers.

I am on my blog and Facebook group every single day. My cell phone comes with me on all vacations, day trips, and when I am sick in bed. I have not missed a weekly calendar post this whole year. Yup! I even sent one from Turks & Caicos.

A year ago, I was a stay at home Mother and became very bored as my 2 year old son was becoming more independent.
I had my daughter at school half day, and my son was home with me. Keeping my son busy in the mornings was getting expensive, so I had to find fun things to do at a low cost.
I began to make lists of cheap and free local programs and would share them with my friends. Then one day a light bulb went off. I thought, how cool would it be to start writing a blog about how to entertain your kids without breaking the bank?
I made a list of crafts to do, and began my journey. Now today, I can stay home with my kids but still do something that I love.

I give my husband Darren a lot of credit. I always disappear after dinner and pop back and fourth from the computer, just as my kids need to be put to bed. Sometimes he isn’t too happy but I always tell him that night time is prime time!
I have also taken over his office! I use it much more than him now. I am fortunate to be married to him because he believed in my idea and has supported everything I have done thus far. So for that I say thank you!
My two children Brooklyn and Bentley have enjoyed all of the “fun” things they get to do because of my blog. When we cook, do crafts, and experiments, they are always happy to participate.
Their favourite thing to do is attend my blog events. They call them “Mommy’s Blog Parties!” and they love coming to help me. My kids have even stood outside their schools handing out flyers with me. They are the reason I write this blog!

* Great Wolf Lodge FREE Room

When I called Great Wolf Lodge to get a group rate, they told me in order for the deal to go through, the group would have to buy 10 rooms. I gave it a shot and I couldn’t believe my eyes. In the first night that I posted, all 10 rooms were sold out. The next day I put out 10 more rooms and they were gone. The third day I posted the last set of 10 rooms. With in a few days, they were gone!
I have decided for the good of the group to get monthly Great Wolf Lodge room rates. I choose the cheapest Friday room rate for each month, and our group sells out now 40-50 rooms per month! Crazy stuff!
I got the group a Deerhurst March Break Room Rate and hope to get more hotels on board to do discounts for our readers.

I saw the need for deals, and I started contacting Entertainment Companies. I was so proud to start my coupon page in October 2014.
This May 2015, will mark my third round of Coupons. I am proud that even some of Toronto’s largest Attractions are apart of my page!

Throwing events was always fun for me, but I never really pictured myself doing this until now!
I partnered up with Yogurtys Autumn Hill in Thornhill to do some Adult Events: Valentines Day Ladies Night Out, VarageSale Ladies Night and a Business Networking Event.
I had also hosted two Kids Events at Yogurtys: Breakfast With Elsa and a Family Day Charity Event supporting Sarah’s Drive For Hope.

My biggest achievement was The Holiday Party I threw in December 2014. The event was sold out a month in advance with 600 people.
I worked like a dog but the day turned out perfect!

I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for being a part of this amazing group.
This has become a positive community of supportive Parents. We all share the same common goal, which is to spend time with our Kids!

Happy Halloween Moms and Dads! I have listed some fun places to take the kids if you want more than your regular door to door trick or treating.
My kids are afraid of the haunted houses in the area, so we will not be venturing to these attractions :( Maybe next year they will be more brave.
Be cautious with your kids and remember to safely inspect their candy bags before they dig in.
Have a great weekend.

Large Sensory Blob

Let me start off by saying that this was my third attempt at creating a water blob. I looked at different ways to do it on the internet.

The first time I went to Lowes and bought a large plastic drop sheet and strong duct tape. I spent $20 and wasted time duct taping all around the edges. The blob leaked and flattened. This was a FAIL!

The second time I went to the Dollarama and bought a plastic drop sheet, duct tape and parchment paper. I ironed along the edges. The blob leaked out and deflated. Again this was a FAIL!

My third try was a WIN! In fact, I should have made two or three of them and filled them up side by side so the kids had more areas to play on.

*Large Sensory Blob*

What You’ll Need
XL size space saver storage ($2 each at the Dollarama)
Duct tape ($1 at the Dollarama)

Scrap items to put inside the bag. (We put in mini rubber dinosaurs, pom poms, a foam ball and different colours of cut up tissue paper. Other ideas you can do is feathers, small soft rubber toys, and leaves).

Don’t touch the cap part on the bag. Leave sealed.
Slightly open a small piece of the ziplock side of the bag (enough to put a hose inside).
Do this with the other one or two bags (if you are using more then one).
Put in your sensory items. Lay the bag flat on the side that doesn’t have the cap part (so the children won’t hurt their feet).
Lay the other bags next to each other in a row so they are touching one another.
Fill the first bag with water. When finished, seal the bag shut.
If there are any holes you can patch them with duct tape. We only had one hole to patch that my two year old purposely made.
Repeat with the other two bags.
Make sure the kids wait until all bags are sealed shut before playing on them.
Have fun!

Kid Life Size Cut-outs

Last weekend I took my kids to the Aquarium in downtown Toronto. Although we all had a great time, it was very expensive. Between tickets and parking we spent $100. Good thing my kids and I will be doing some inexpensive craft activities this week. The activity I am going to show you today are life size cut outs of your children. This idea was given to me by a friend who does it with her daughter and I loved it. I highly recommend that you trace your kids the night before the activity and cut them out while they are sleeping, as this takes a bit of time.  My 4 year old daughter’s friend came over and did this craft with us.  She had so much fun doing it. She forgot to take it home and her mommy told me to save it for her because she keeps talking about it. So cute! Okay let’s move on to the activity for your little ones!

What You’ll Need
Kraft roll paper or a roll of wrapping paper (you use the blank side) (use one roll per child)
Any other laying around the house (feathers, string, pipe cleaners, stickers, felt, foam, paint and Pom poms to name a few)

Roll out your paper
Have your child lay flat on their backs on top of the paper
Trace their whole body with a pen or pencil (My 2 year old monkey was a good sport about this).

Cut out their silhouette with scissors

Have them draw in the face and hair.
Decorate with your supplies.

Our special guest decorating her silhouette.

The end result. The girls wanted “Frozen” type necklaces.
