This competition encourages participants to create something clever and imaginative out of sand.
This festival, a TO2015 IGNITE community partnership with the City of Oshawa, celebrating the diversity by bringing us together in the many ways that sand plays an integral role in all of our lives. Lakeview Park is the ideal venue to host a signature event like this that will create fun and recreational activities around sand as our common theme.
The competition is open to kids from middle school through high school age, as well as mixed use groups like churches, businesses, families and civic groups. The competition will be held Saturday, July 18th, 2015, and teams can work on their sculptures between the hours of 9:00 am to 2:30 pm. Judging will begin promptly at 2:30 pm and will last until 3 pm after which the winners will be announced. This event will go on, rain or shine.
Each sculpture will be judged from all angles and looked at for Panam/ Parapanam theme, originality, technical difficulty, artistic execution and carving technique. First, second, third and people choice place teams will receive prizes.
Plots for each sculpture will be assigned once teams arrive on site for the event; team arrival time is 8:30 am. Forms can be used to create the sculpture but cannot be utilized in the final creation. Moreover teams cannot combine their sites.
For the past years, this great family event has attracted many of contestants and spectators to the beautiful sands of Lakeview Oshawa Beach. The event starts at 8:30 a.m. For the competitors, there’s a new twist this year. Organizers will bury a plastic starfish in the sand the night before the competition. Those who dig one up while building their sand creations will win a prize! Among the judges will be Oshawa Regional & City Councilor Bob

Visual Arts: Celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Canadian flag with Tim Van Horn’s Canadian Mosaic Project. An on-site portrait studio allows visitors to be photographed and later incorporated in this ongoing project, which has a goal of incorporating more than 54,000 portraits of Canadians.

Dance: The popular disco-era dance, The Hustle, is celebrating its 40th anniversary and the audience is invited to shake their tail feathers en masse to the music of After Funk.

Food: The Mad for Maple Food Competition challenges top chefs from around GTA to create the ultimate baked goodie with Canada’s unofficial favourite flavour, maple.

Family: The Maple Leaf Families series features a swath of programming as diverse as Canada itself, from Japanese-Canadian storytelling, musical petting zoo, and grooves from Latin America.

Come and celebrate Canada Day in New Tecumseth, with free outdoor entertainment for the whole family.
The fun starts at 10:30am at Riverdale Park in Alliston. There will be live demonstrations by New Tecumseth Fire Rescue and various music and dance performances from local community groups. In addition, there will be carnival style games, a car show, free BBQ, vendors markets, the grand opening of the new Rotary Splash Zone and much more!
Later on, come out to the Tottenham Conservation Area, where the evening celebrations will take place. A BBQ will start of the festivities at 5pm, then at 6:15pm get ready to rock the night away with live music from “All that’s Left”, followed by “Puppet Show” an 80’s tribute band. Then to cap off the night, the Tottenham Firefighters Association will light up the sky with a spectacular fireworks display that will start at 10pm.
