Turn Your Clutter Into Easy Cash

Hello Parents,

I have recently been introduced to something awesome. An easy way to get rid of old clothes, toys, furniture, books, and kids items.

VarageSale logo

The Company is called VarageSale. They are an online marketplace where you can buy, sell and connect with your local community. VarageSale was founded in 2012 and has over 350 communities across the U.S. and Canada and around the world. Currently, in Ontario, Markham, Stouffville and Oshawa already have online communities.
VarageSale is FREE to use ( The easiest part is that iphone, Android, and Kindle Users can download the free and simple mobile app.

Besides VarageSale being easy to use, it also allows families to SAVE AND MAKE MONEY! Go through your house and find items you no longer need. The money you make could be put away for your child’s college fund, a vacation or just even have extra cash around the house. You can save money by purchasing previously owned items at a much lower cost than buying it new.

What makes VarageSale unique is that it is way more convenient than doing a real garage sale. Most items sell within the first couple days, and many only take a couple hours. The members are properly screened. Members login with their real identity creating a social shopping experience based on real faces and names. Interactions around items help members get to know each other. Friendships evolve, creating a trusting local community.

Attention RH 2

VARAGESALE would like to open a Online Community in Richmond Hill  (Vaughan, Thornhill, Woodbridge, Maple, Aurora).

In order to do this, they need Support from residents in the area to show that they would like to see this. If you live in the area, all you have to do is click on the event I am posting below and respond that you are “ATTENDING”. This is not a physical event. You don’t actually attend this. It just shows that you are supporting them to offer this for Vaughan users.

If they hit 1500 people, they are going to have a FREE event for kids at a play centre in Richmond Hill to celebrate.

There is no catch, or money involved. They just need the interest to go ahead and launch this area. They have 350 locations already all over North America. You can invite your friends in the area to join too! Let’s help them out! Click on the link below to join their event.

Deerhurst Resort Review
Deerhurst Resort Review

I just got back from Deerhurst Resort in Huntsville, Ontario.
In this review, I am focusing on the Winter Holiday Break.
Although this was our second time staying at Deerhurst during the December break, I have been there many times since I was a teenager.

The resort is equipped with a large pool, a baby shallow pool, and a jacuzzi. The kids had fun hopping from pool to pool. They love going in the hot tub.

•FUNZONE (Included)
The Funzone is awesome. They only have it during Winter Break and March Break.
We experienced it last year. It was great place to tire your kids out. The room was large and was equipped with four large inflatable jumping castles, slides, and an obstacle course. This year they had blocks, colouring sheets, a ping pong table, and three TVs with XBOX. The room was open until 8pm and was a great place to take the kids before or after dinner.

•ARCADE (Extra Charge)
There is a small self run arcade in the main building. There’s a machine to put your money in to get the kids tokens. Most of the games will allow you to win tickets. There’s a prize machine to put your tickets in and your children can redeem a toy. My kids loved going there. We spent about $10 each time we went.

The rock climbing wall has an instructor to attach you to a harness. The cost is $10 per person per 30 minutes. My kids are a bit too young to participate in this so we didn’t do it.

If the weather is on your side, Deerhurst creates an ice skating rink in the back of the complex. It was too mild to go this year, but we did go last year. During December Break and March Break, Tim Hortins offers free skating in Huntsville. We went to The Summit Community Centre for free indoor skating with the kids.

•KIDS ‘N Critters/Kids And Ponies (Extra Charge)
We did this two summers ago but it is offered all year long. Your children get a tour of the barn on site and get to interact with the farm animals. The program ends with a pony ride for each child.

•DOG SLEDDING (Extra Charge)
This activity is the coolest thing we have ever seen at Deerhurst. Your child has a choice to stand in the back of a sled or sit inside one while a Husky dog pulls them around a small inclosed track. My five year old daughter loved dog sledding. She smiled the entire time.

•SNOW SHOEING (Included)
My kids participated in snow shoeing last year on the property of Deerhurst. My son had just turned 2 and he was able to do it. They had a blast.

We have not tried Cross Country Skiing yet but I have seen guests do it in the back of the property on a trail.

In the Winter months, Deerhurst has two of their five restaurants open. We enjoyed the two restaurants which are both located in the main building. If you are trying to save money or want more options, there are some great restaurants that are a ten minute drive into town.
There’s plenty of fast food options like Tim Hortons, McDonalds, KFC and Little Ceasars. One day we got a medium walk in pizza for $5.50 at Little Ceasars.
Some good casual well priced sit down family restaurants are: Swiss Chalet, East Side Marios, and Crabby Joe’s (Sunday night kids eat free),

The main building rooms are a little dated but very clean and comfortable. The pros of being in the main building is that all of the indoor activities and restaurants are in there. They also allow dogs to stay with you there. We stayed in the main room on our most recent visit.

The lakeside rooms have been recently renovated and look very nice. They are less convenient in the winter because you have to always drive to the main building but the view is really nice.

The Summit Lodge rooms have been renovated and are really nice. It is a one bedroom suite with a pull out couch in the den. There are two TVs, a kitchenette and a fire place. We stayed there two summers ago and loved the room. These rooms are a 3 minute walk from the main building.

* I will be getting my blog readers and Facebook group members a March Break discount for 2 nights at Deerhurst Resort. Stay tuned in the new year for more information.

The Holiday Break is approaching, and I was thinking what the heck do I do with my two kids? If  you are not spending your break in a sunny destination, then you would probably agree.
I am here to save you from a lot of whining and aggravation! One thing to think about. It isn’t what you do with your kids that counts, but spending just time with them is what creates the memories. It doesn’t matter if you go to fancy attractions every day or do simple things with them. They remember the positive experience with their parents.
With that being said, I have compiled some information to help guide you through this winter break! You won’t be seeing any over priced attractions on my list. I have also created a calendar of events happening in the city.
If you are the type that gets overwhelmed easily, I recommend making your own list of things you would like to do with your kids over the break. I hope this list really helps you have a great holiday while staying in your budget.
I hope everyone has a Happy Chanukah and Merry Christmas! Be safe and have fun with your kids!

Search online for your local public libraries. They have lots of FREE activities for your children to do.

Many outdoor rinks are free to skate on. All we need is the weather on our side to stay cold enough.
Check your local cities online to see where the closest outdoor skating rinks are to you.
*Here is the Toronto Guide Outdoor Skating:

There are tons of arenas hosting free skating throughout Ontario. To find out the closest arenas near you, go to:

Upper Canada Mall in Newmarket has a small playground in front of Toys R Us on the second floor. It is free and good for toddlers.

For all of you anti fast foodies, taking your kids to these indoor play grounds are free and fun. My 3 year old son refers to McDonalds as “Old McDonald.” My kids get so tired out there. Just bring some baby wipes for their hands for after they play!

Check out your local indoor public swimming pools for recreation swim times.

Movie theatres are 1/2 price on Tuesdays. The smaller theatre chains like Rainbow Cinemas will be cheaper, but whatever you choose you will still save money.

*THE ROM: Fridays after 4:30pm (Admission- Adults: $10, Children 4-14 years: $7 and Kids 3 and under: Free)
*The Bata Shoe Museum: Thursdays between 5pm-8pm (Admission- $5 donation)
*The Art Gallery of Ontario: Wednesday nights between 6pm-8:30pm (Admission- FREE for Everyone)

Write the alphabet on a piece of paper. One letter per line. Have the kids run around the house or a mall and have them find an item that starts with that letter. (Ie. A=apple, B=bike, C=couch). For smaller kids who are learning their sounds, you can write the words for them.

Take a trip to No Frills and pick up some cardboard boxes. Use strong duct tape and a pair of scissors to create a play house. If your kids are older, you can also get them to take markers or paint and decorate the house.

Turn on the fire (if you have). Bust out blankets, and make some popcorn. Put on a new movie that your kids haven’t seen. Dim the lights, and you’ve got movie time!

Get your children to put on costumes, practice, and put on a show for you. You can get older kids to make their own props.

Have your kids look around your backyard or a park and have them pick our leaves, stones, sticks (etc.). When you come back home, have them glue their findings to a piece of paper to create nature art.

Take out a sled, tube or even a garbage bag and head to a park with a hill. Finish the day off with some hot chocolate.

Elsa & Anna did it and so can your family! Bundle up your children and give them a carrot for the nose and two small oranges for the eyes. Be creative!

Find the largest pet store near you and take the kids for a visit. They may even get a chance to pet the animals.
My kids love going to Big Al’s Aquarium right outside Vaughan Mills Mall. They have tons of fish and reptiles to see. We usually get to hold a lizard when we go.

If you can resist caving into your children’s toy requests at Indigo, you should take a trip there. You can pick out books together and read to each other.

For some easy NON-COOK Play-dough recipes, visit:

Buy a bag of cotton balls from the store. Dump them over your kids train table, doll house or figurines. Make it “SNOW”.

2) BAKE:
Buy some ingredients and have your kids help you bake and decorate cookies, cupcakes or a cake. I am not a good baker, so I would just buy the cake mix and the icing pre-made. I am not a Martha Stewart!!!

Take your kids to the grocery store and buy dough, sauce, cheese and toppings. Have your kids create their own pizzas, bake them, and eat them together!

Go to the Dollar Store and buy coloured paper, markers and stickers. Have your kids make cards for their family and friends.

It took me one trip to the dollar store to create these two Frozen inspired crafts.

Go to the dollar store and get glow sticks! Dress your kids in light colours. Close the blinds and the lights and activate their glow sticks. Put on their favourite songs and have them dance. This one is good when they have friends come over.

Go to the dollar store and buy age appropriate puzzles for your kids. Have everyone sit together and work on them.

8) SNOW ART: Buy spray bottles, and paint or food colouring from the dollar store. Fill the bottles with water and paint. Let the children colour the snow.

Put chairs together and cover them with blankets to create a tent. Make hot dogs and smores and have your kids eat them in the tent. Sing camp songs by the imaginary fire.

Create a Map of your home and mark the spots to find. Hide small loose change around the house. Have the kids find the change (the “treasures”) and have them put the money in their piggy banks.

Beaches Turks & Caicos Review

Hello Everyone,
I just came back from the island of Turks And Caicos with my husband, kids, my siblings and my parents.
While we were there, I was so interested to see the Beaches premise. I decided to take the kids to spend the day.

First off, Beaches is NOT on a dime. It is extremely expensive but I figured why not I try out the place and see if it is worth the money.

When we arrived at the resort we were overwhelmed with excitement. The place was huge. For those of you who have not heard about The Beaches hotel chain, they are owned by Sandals and Sesame Street is one of their sponsors. The hotel is equipped with 19 restaurants, 6 pools, a waterpark, lazy river, X Box Play Lounge, game rooms and more.

There is a drop off kids centre called Camp Sesame. The staff are all certified. For parents who want a break you can drop off your kids and enjoy some relaxation.

We started off at the water park. Inside the area was water slides that catered to all ages, a lazy river, a splash pad and a surf simulator. My kids were trying out all of the age appropriate activities for them. They are 2 and 4 years old. There was a kids only swim up pool bar serving specialty non alcoholic beverages.

We then headed over to the beach front. There was an inflatable trampoline in the ocean which I took the kids to try.

I took the kids to a few scheduled activities. They helped Ernie find rubber duckies and they baked cookies with Cookie Monster. My kids were so star struck with they saw the Sesame Street Characters.

I am unable to give a review on the food and the accommodation since I only ate one meal there and didn’t stay overnight. What I will say is you get that excited feeling when you arrive there. Like the one you get when you go to Disney World.

I spoke with the manager and he told me the best price time to book Beaches is from October to the November U.S. Thanksgiving weekend.

Beaches has three locations. One in Turks And Caicos and two in Jamaica.

For more information about booking a Beaches vacation you can contact travel agent Ilana Kalnicky. She is a trained agent by Beaches/Sandals and can help you book a wonderful vacation.

Ilana Kalnicky

Happy Halloween Moms and Dads! I have listed some fun places to take the kids if you want more than your regular door to door trick or treating.
My kids are afraid of the haunted houses in the area, so we will not be venturing to these attractions :( Maybe next year they will be more brave.
Be cautious with your kids and remember to safely inspect their candy bags before they dig in.
Have a great weekend.
