This family-friendly, live performance showcases the best of music from the silver screen from China to Hollywood, on Saturday, January 6 at 7:30pm at Roy Thomson Hall. The internationally renowned China Broadcasting Film Orchestra will bring timeless scores and soundtracks to life as films play on a massive LED screen in the backdrop.

Families can enjoy nostalgic classics from composers like John Williams, Hans Zimmer and James Horner to guest conductor Pang Ka Pang’s artful fusion of western stylings on traditional Chinese scores.

Some highlights of the evening’s program include, from the east: “Red Sun Shines on the Border” (Chinese Revolutionary Music), the Peking Opera with scores from Killing Tiger on the Mountain, and Song of the Fishermen (with You Yaowen on cello, and Li Li on harp).

From the west: “Hedwig’s Theme” from Harry Potter, scores from Star Wars, “The Prayer” from Quest for Camelot, and excerpts from Spectre from the James Bond series.

You can expect an energetic and highly entertaining evening as the critically acclaimed China Broadcasting Film Symphony Orchestra (CBFSO) engages audiences at both visual and auditory levels. CBFSO has been pleasing crowds since 1949 and has performed and recorded music for nearly 2000 films, television dramas and documentaries. They have also performed in over 40 countries across five continents, and featured renowned conductors, composers, dancers and performers from all over the globe, as well as often playing to sold-out audiences.

The Canada-China Cultural Development Association, (the official organizers) of East Meets West – Music and Movies, are also excited to present world-class, guest conductor Pang Ka Pang for this special performance.

Tickets are currently available online and at the box office at Roy Thomson Hall and range from $38 -$138.
