Things To Do At Home During The Holiday Break!

**FREE DIY ACTIVITIES**
1) ALPHABET SCAVENGER HUNT:
Write the alphabet on a piece of paper. One letter per line. Have the kids run around the house and have them find an item that starts with that letter. (Ie. A=apple, B=bike, C=couch). For smaller kids who are learning their sounds, you can write the words for them.

2) CARD BOARD PLAY HOUSE:
Take a trip to No Frills and pick up some cardboard boxes. Use strong duct tape and a pair of scissors to create a play house. If your kids are older, you can also get them to take markers or paint and decorate the house.

3) HOST A MOVIE DAY:
Turn on the fire (if you have). Bust out the warm blankets, make some popcorn and have a movie marathon. Maybe all Christmas Movies or a theme about Animals… Dim the lights, and you’ve got movie time!

4) CREATE A PLAY:
Get your children to put on costumes, practice, and put on a show for you. You can get older kids to make their own props.

5) BUILD AN INDOOR FORT:
Give the kids some blankets and pillows and let them build a fort or tent. Let them have a picnic lunch or dinner in there. If it is night time you can add flashlights or electronic candles.

6) TOBOGGANING:
Take out a sled, tube or even a garbage bag and head to a park with a hill. Finish the day off with some hot chocolate.

7) BUILD A SNOW MAN:
Elsa & Anna did it and so can your family! Bundle up your children and give them a carrot for the nose and two small oranges for the eyes. Be creative!

8) VISIT A PET STORE:
Find the largest pet store near you and take the kids for a visit. They may even get a chance to pet the animals.
My kids love going to Big Al’s Aquarium right outside Vaughan Mills Mall. They have tons of fish and reptiles to see. We usually get to hold a lizard when we go.

9) VISIT A BOOK STORE:
If you can resist caving into your children’s toy requests at Indigo, you should take a trip there. You can pick out books together and read to each other. You could also visit your local library. They may have activities going on for the holidays.

10) MAKE YOUR OWN PLAY-DOUGH:
For some easy NON-COOK Play-dough recipes, visit: http://entertainkidsonadime.com/2014/03/26/easy-play-dough-recipes

snail2

11) CHRISTMAS LIGHT NIGHT
Take your children on a drive with popcorn and candy and go to a fun area where there are a lot of Christmas Lights.

12) ICE BUBBLES
Do you have bubbles laying around? When the temperature goes below 0 degrees, blow bubbles and watch them freeze on the wand.

13) COLOURED ICE
Put different colours of food colouring in different cups of water. Pour the each colour in an ice cube tray. Once your ice is frozen, hide them around the backyard and let your kids go find them.

**CHEAP DIY ACTIVITIES**
1) COTTON BALL SNOW FALL:
Buy a bag of cotton balls from the store. Dump them over your kids train table, doll house or figurines. Make it “SNOW”.

2) BAKE:
Buy some ingredients and have your kids help you bake and decorate cookies, cupcakes or a cake. I am not a good baker, so I would just buy the cake mix and the icing pre-made. I am not a Martha Stewart!!!

3) PIZZA MAKING:
Take your kids to the grocery store and buy dough, sauce, cheese and toppings. Have your kids create their own pizzas, bake them, and eat them together!

4) MAKE HOMEMADE HOLIDAY CARDS:
Go to the Dollar Store and buy coloured paper, markers and stickers. Have your kids make cards for their family and friends.

5) MAKE FROZEN INSPIRED CRAFTS:
It took me one trip to the dollar store to create these two Frozen inspired crafts. http://entertainkidsonadime.com/2014/06/02/frozen-crafts

20140523-010836-4116925

6) MAKE A DEEJAY DANCE PARTY:
Go to the dollar store and get glow sticks! Dress your kids in light colours. Close the blinds and the lights and activate their glow sticks. Put on their favourite songs and have them dance. This one is good when they have friends come over.

7) PUZZLE DAY:
Go to the dollar store and buy age appropriate puzzles for your kids. Have everyone sit together and work on them.

8) SNOW ART:
Buy spray bottles, and paint or food colouring from the dollar store. Fill the bottles with water and paint. Let the children colour the snow.

9) INDOOR CAMP OUT:
Put chairs together and cover them with blankets to create a tent. Make hot dogs and smores and have your kids eat them in the tent. Sing camp songs by the imaginary fire.

10) TREASURE HUNT:
Create a Map of your home and mark the spots to find. Hide small loose change around the house. Have the kids find the change (the “treasures”) and have them put the money in their piggy banks.

11) VISIT A FIRE STATION OR AMBULANCE STATION
Go buy some coffee and donuts and take the kids over to your local station. In exchange for the treats, they just may give your children a tour.

How To Go Hatchimal Crazy… Without Even Buying One!
How To Go Hatchimal Crazy… Without Even Buying One!

Hi Friends! Welcome to the Hatchimal Craze! Yes, this is a Craze and just like Frozen and the 80’s Cabbage Patch Kids, it will eventually calm down. It will be available everywhere and every Child will be sick of them!

My two Kids toss everything to the side. When they asked me for a Hatchimal, I said “NO!” If they begged me daily I may have caved, but asking me twice doesn’t cut it! They really won’t play with it after a few days. Once the novelty wears off, our toys collect dust.

Now a lot of people geniunely want to get one for their kids. The current problem is there are NONE to buy. Unless you call wasting your hard earned money to pay people who inflate the price 3x the amount.

Here are ways you can go Hatchimal Crazy and save your money!

Pop Events Toy Sale!
Pop Events Toy Sale!

Are you looking to find some great gifts and save some money?
Pop Events is having their annual holiday toy sale. It is a great place to stalk up on gifts.

I was over there myself to get some last minute Birthday Gifts.
The sale itself isn’t large but their products are good, and they have something for everyone!

The best part of all is that a lot of their products are pre-wrapped so you do not have to worry about waiting in line at a toy store or wrapping it yourself.

My Favourite Picks I Found
Here are some of my favourite items that I found there!

Infantino Lights & Sounds Musical Touch Pad (Ages 9 months and up)
This has lights and sounds and is a touch pad!
I wish this one was around when my kid’s were small.

* Fisherprice Little People- Disney Princess Belle’s Cottage (1.5-5 years)
Place the horse on the hill and give it a light tap, and it goes “klippity klop” right down. No batteries needed.
We have one of the other versions of this toy, and both my kids love it.

ALEX Sk8 Deck Wall Art
