Lunch Lady – Making life easier
Lunch Lady – Making life easier

When it comes to making school lunches, I am not a fan. By the time I am done working, making dinner, helping my kids with homework, showers, and the bedtime routine, the last thing I want t think about is putting together their lunch boxes.

I know there are Moms who cut their kid’s sandwiches and fruit into shapes and put sweet little lunch notes inside and I must admit I do not know how they do it! I am a little envious.

But there is something I can do to make their lunch special. I can order from the Lunch Lady. My kids love it. The price is affordable. The meal is delivered hot right to their desk.

It is so easy, all I need to do is I go online and choose from a menu at www.thelunchlady.ca There is so much variety that even the pickiest eater will find an option that is perfect. My kids love the Chicken Finger Dinner with the rice and niblet corn and don’t seem to notice the rice is whole grain. They also like the homemade Mac and Cheese. My kids like the regular size meals but there are smaller ones for younger kids.

I am a huge fan of this service. I love it when it is Lunch Lady Day – YEAH!

If you want to get more information about having a program like this at your school send an email to newschools@thelunchlady.ca

SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER FREE & CHEAP EVENTS (September 30- October 2, 2016)
SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER FREE & CHEAP EVENTS (September 30- October 2, 2016)

I decided to get a little crafty yesterday and made my 6 year old daughter a GUM BALL MACHINE Costume for Halloween.

14523271_10103326659485010_5348896622412647095_n

All of the items are from Dollarama!

14516541_10103326660637700_7002569178344299164_n

ITEMS USED

•My old white tank (it will be big and can go over a sweatshirt or jacket)
• Red Hat – $4 (I cut the hair. I could have saved money and bought a red beenie hat but it wasn’t as cute)
• Coloured plastic balls– $2.50
• Apron -$1.50
• Metalic paper -$1.50
• Plastic Vacuum bag- $1.50 (Or use can use strong cellophane)
• You need a black marker, masking tape, clear tape, and a glue gun

14502950_10103326660862250_8054997443782456385_n

I cut out the red metallic paper (make sure the balls fit on the paper, before you glue gun them on).  I cut the plastic and used clear tape to tape it tightly around the balls and circle paper. I used masking tape to tape the circle with balls to the white tank top, and the apron to the top to the white tank top. I glue gunned the silver paper to the apron.

The whole craft took me an hour. She was so impressed when she got home from school. She choose this costume for trick or treating. For someone who can not sew, this is not a bad craft to do. I recommend it.

Pioneers and Victorians were notorious for not wasting anything! If you had a bountiful harvest and could spare the seeds, why not use them to make a decorative wreath? Tour the Museum and look for other examples of recycling and reuse. They’re everywhere!
This event is free for all ages, while supplies last.

1 YEAR AND NEVER FORGOTTEN: NEVILLE-LAKE FAMILY

12472476_10156663883855024_6841288683329195086_n

Today marks the 1 year anniversary since the Neville-Lake Tragedy!
Sadly on September 28th, the world lost Daniel, Harry, and Milly Neville-Lake (and their Grandfather Gary) due to the careless act of a drunk driver.
This thoughtless action, caused Jennifer & Ed Neville-Lake to lose the people they most loved in their lives.

For those of you who do not know, the Children’s mother Jennifer Neville-Lake was a part of the Entertain Kids On A Dime Community. I immediately felt the need to help her in any way I could.
During this time, I was able to get to know Jennifer and meet some of her family members. Jennifer is a genuine, caring and kind person, and my heart aches seeing her in so much pain. She is extremely fortunate to have an amazing group of friends, a kind Mother, and supportive siblings by her side.

I am beyond impressed how the Entertain Kids On A Dime Community has banded together and helped support this family.

BELOW ARE SOME INITIATIVES THAT WE HAVE DONE THIS YEAR TO HELP!

1) RAISING MONEY FOR FOOD

The very first initiative we did, was raise $1000 for Jennifer and Ed. The money was raised on TILT and I purchased Walmart Gift Cards and mailed it to Jennifer and Ed.

2) THE CHRISTMAS GIFT INITIATIVE

12241249_10102828890063920_6893531142282426004_n
We raised money through the Entertain Kids On A Dime Community and got incredible donors to help us

• FOR JEN’S GRANDMOTHER JOSEFINA:
* Kleinburg Nursery had donated beautiful plants to her.

• FOR HER MOTHER NERIZA:
* $100 gift card to Chapters/Indigo
* The Aveda Wild Strawberry Salon has donated a manicure, pedicure, wash cut & blow dry, and a facial for Jen and her Mother.

•FOR JEN & ED
* Blue Mountain Resort has donated a one-night, mid-week stay in a Village Suite
* The Scandinave Spa Blue Mountain has donated free entry into the hot and cold baths
* The group purchased had purchased $600 in restaurant gift cards so they don’t have to worry about cooking
* 2 NIGHTS AT Langdon Hall Country House Hotel & Spa: We had purchased a night at Langdon Hall Adults Only Hotel in Guelph.
Jen and Ed will have all of their meals covered and you will each get $300 worth of spa treatments for their stay.
Langdon Hall has donated their second night inclusive of all of their meals.

They are probably not in the mind set to do this year, but we hope one day they will!

•TRIBUTE TO THE KIDS AND DAD
* We purchased a bench that has been installed at Kettle Lake Park in King City. The bench has a plaque that reads “In memory of Gary Neville & Daniel, Harry and Milly Neville-Lake”
* Greenside Gardens N More donated 4 trees to be planted next to the bench. The Township of King will donated the labour and we have purchased a plaque for each tree with the name of her Children and her Father.

3) CAR MAGNET PROJECT
Early this year, I teamed up with a Company called MAGNETREE BOOKS to create car magnets with pictures of the Neville-Lake Children. On the magnet, the words read “NOT ONE MORE” and “DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE.”
The magnets were put on the back of cars to remember the Children and remind people not to drink and drive. The proceeds from the magnets, went to MADD Canada.

4) NEVILLE-LAKE MEMORIAL
We held a Memorial Event on August 14th at Wellesley Park in King City, to honor the Neville-Lake family. Hundreds of people came out to support the Neville-Lake family. Since our group was so big, we couldn’t have the Memorial Celebration in Kettle-Lake Park where the bench, plaques, and trees were planted, so we moved to a bigger location within a 5 minute drive.
The event was beautiful. We had a dove release ceremony, where Children of all ages let 4 doves into the sky, as we listened to the song “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” (the Kid’s favourite song). The children blew bubbles into the sky during the dove release.
We had lots of eventful entertainment for the kids. We had a colour theme at the event symbolizing the birth dates of the Kids and their Grandfather (Light Blue, Green, Purple, and Red). We sprayed the attendee’s hair in those colours, gave out necklaces, sunglasses, and bubbles as well.
I would love to do this again next year. I hope more of you can come out and support the family!

WHERE WE GO FROM HERE?
1) WE SUPPORT
It is important we continue to support Jennifer and Ed Neville-Lake. They wake up in pain daily, and we need to show them we care!
A wonderful Charity is being formed called: “MANY HANDS DOING GOOD” by the friends of Jennifer and Ed. This is to honour the Neville-Lake Children and offer programs like art therapy to kids who need it.
I volunteered to be on the Committee and I will inform the group when there is something happening where you can help support the cause.

2) WE LEARN
The message here is no matter what, NEVER DRINK AND DRIVE! This story has still not stopped the amount of DUI’s happening in Ontario. This is a big problem! People aren’t learning from these tragedies.

3) WE REMEMBER
It is important that we remember Daniel, Harry, Milly and their Grandfather Gary. I am always open to allowing positive and heartfelt messages to Jennifer and her family on the Entertain Kids On A Dime Facebook group. The Community has been an amazing support system to this family.

A NOTE FROM “SHOWSCHOOL

13450758_621814817969986_7350544636488719406_n-1

How  Do We Teach The All Important Quality Of Persistence

1) By using specific goals with an exciting deadline

When rehearsals or classes are designed to not only build a skill, but to show it off at a public show just weeks away, students are much more motivated to focus, fully participate, and apply themselves because there are real stakes involved.
When students are able to show the fruits of their labour, they benefit from an emotional payoff, which feeds the habit of persistence. The source was not from parents lecturing them on the importance of practice, but from their own life experience!
Because ShowSchool gives students the chance to perform publicly, they grow and mature through valuable life experience on stage and off.

2) A Program Structured for Success

After many years of teaching students of all experience levels, I know now that everyone needs to feel a sense of accomplishment, not just every 6 weeks at a show, but at each rehearsal.
We do this partly by planning “wins” so to speak, throughout the program. By carefully gauging a student’s current ability and level of confidence, we then gently lead them to go beyond their comfort zone, just enough to ensure that they can succeed, and praise them so that they recognize achievement.

Specifically we do this by:
Breaking up into smaller groups or even working alone with a student before or after class. The more lacking in confidence, the smaller the group.
Designing material that can be performed at almost any level of experience. More advanced material can be taught once a student’s confidence and skill(s) grow.
Showcase student strength(s) by featuring their current abilities in a show until they are ready to learn new skills.

3) Modelling persistence by example & storytelling

Years ago, while still in Theatre school, I performed on Toronto’s Breakfast Television. The show was shot live, so I only had one chance to get it right. It was very early in the morning, and I was exhausted. Although I knew the material and rehearsed it more times than I could count, when the cameras & lights turned on, I completely forgot everything! I panicked and froze, but only for a moment. I then did the only thing I could do – improvise. I made up the choreography on the spot and acted like this was exactly how it was supposed to be. No one else noticed but my teacher.
Improvisation takes confidence. This level of confidence and grit was cultivated within me by a loving mentor. My aim is to provide that same gift to students now. I accomplish this through telling stories like this one, and by being there to nurture their own persistence when challenges happen.

Bio – As the founder of ShowSchool, Mr. Broda has taught almost a thousand students from around the world and performed in more than 2500 educational shows in nineteen different countries over a ten year period.
Jayce is also a current host/producer of a Android Authority that educates and entertains more than 20 million viewers per month and recently reached 2.3 million subscribers.

ShowSchool’s first class is free.

Rehearsals begin Sept 26th.

There are only 20 spots available in the cast.
