DEERHURST RESORT REVIEW

I just got back from Deerhurst Resort in Huntsville, Ontario.
In this review, I am focusing on the Winter Holiday Break.
Although this was our second time staying at Deerhurst during the December break, I have been there many times since I was a teenager.

**WHAT THERE IS FOR KIDS DURING WINTER BREAK**

•INDOOR SWIMMING (Included)
The resort is equipped with a large pool, a baby shallow pool, and a jacuzzi. The kids had fun hopping from pool to pool. They love going in the hot tub.

•FUNZONE (Included)
The Funzone is awesome. They only have it during Winter Break and March Break.
We experienced it last year. It was great place to tire your kids out. The room was large and was equipped with four large inflatable jumping castles, slides, and an obstacle course. This year they had blocks, colouring sheets, a ping pong table, and three TVs with XBOX. The room was open until 8pm and was a great place to take the kids before or after dinner.

•ARCADE (Extra Charge)
There is a small self run arcade in the main building. There’s a machine to put your money in to get the kids tokens. Most of the games will allow you to win tickets. There’s a prize machine to put your tickets in and your children can redeem a toy. My kids loved going there. We spent about $10 each time we went.

•ROCKCLIMBING WALL (Extra Charge)
The rock climbing wall has an instructor to attach you to a harness. The cost is $10 per person per 30 minutes. My kids are a bit too young to participate in this so we didn’t do it.

•OUTDOOR ICE SKATING (Included)
If the weather is on your side, Deerhurst creates an ice skating rink in the back of the complex. It was too mild to go this year, but we did go last year. During December Break and March Break, Tim Hortins offers free skating in Huntsville. We went to The Summit Community Centre for free indoor skating with the kids.

•KIDS ‘N Critters/Kids And Ponies (Extra Charge)
We did this two summers ago but it is offered all year long. Your children get a tour of the barn on site and get to interact with the farm animals. The program ends with a pony ride for each child.

•DOG SLEDDING (Extra Charge)
This activity is the coolest thing we have ever seen at Deerhurst. Your child has a choice to stand in the back of a sled or sit inside one while a Husky dog pulls them around a small inclosed track. My five year old daughter loved dog sledding. She smiled the entire time.

•SNOW SHOEING (Included)
My kids participated in snow shoeing last year on the property of Deerhurst. My son had just turned 2 and he was able to do it. They had a blast.

•CROSS COUNTRY SKIING (Included)
We have not tried Cross Country Skiing yet but I have seen guests do it in the back of the property on a trail.

**FOOD**
In the Winter months, Deerhurst has two of their five restaurants open. We enjoyed the two restaurants which are both located in the main building. If you are trying to save money or want more options, there are some great restaurants that are a ten minute drive into town.
There’s plenty of fast food options like Tim Hortons, McDonalds, KFC and Little Ceasars. One day we got a medium walk in pizza for $5.50 at Little Ceasars.
Some good casual well priced sit down family restaurants are: Swiss Chalet, East Side Marios, and Crabby Joe’s (Sunday night kids eat free),

**ACCOMMODATIONS**
MAIN BUILDING
The main building rooms are a little dated but very clean and comfortable. The pros of being in the main building is that all of the indoor activities and restaurants are in there. They also allow dogs to stay with you there. We stayed in the main room on our most recent visit.

LAKESIDE ROOMS
The lakeside rooms have been recently renovated and look very nice. They are less convenient in the winter because you have to always drive to the main building but the view is really nice.

SUMMIT LODGE SUITES
The Summit Lodge rooms have been renovated and are really nice. It is a one bedroom suite with a pull out couch in the den. There are two TVs, a kitchenette and a fire place. We stayed there two summers ago and loved the room. These rooms are a 3 minute walk from the main building.

* I will be getting my blog readers and Facebook group members a March Break discount for 2 nights at Deerhurst Resort. Stay tuned in the new year for more information.
